Rembrandt illustrates this powerful moment by showing an angel, engulfed in rays of heavenly light, who has come down from heaven to be with Jesus and bring him strength in this time of great anguish. It is time for him to be betrayed by one of his apostles. In the background, Judas leads the Roman soldiers over to Jesus, to be arrested and later crucified.
