This important moment takes place in the bible book of John, chapter 4 versus 5-42. Christ teaches many valuable illustrations in this chapter of the Bible, and he exemplifies what it means to be ‘God-like.’ He breaks societal boundaries and lets the woman know she can worship God anywhere (in spirit and truth). The entire example shows us that faith is a dialogue, and Christ demonstrates this when he opens up, saying for the first time, “I, the one speaking to you – I am he” – the Messiah. Rembrandt wonderfully brought this piece of the Christian message to life and paid homage to Christ’s promise of eternal life in brilliant detail and composition.
