In The Curse Conquered, Dalí articulately creates a surrealist dream with the focal point of a red woman’s dress shoe. This shoe, however, is somehow a part of a utilitarian object rather than a shoe to be worn. A crutch through the center of the shoe holds a rope that is tied to a bucket that is lowered back into the shoe. The shoe sits atop an oddly-shaped sewing machine, also resembling a shoe, that looks like the rock formations at Dalí’s hometown of Port Lligat.
