In this engraving, Dalí carefully illustrates Tristan’s Last Fight. Tristan has been wounded in battle and he asks Isolde to come to find him and try to heal his wounds. Tristan’s contorted body is plainly evident in the foreground and Tristan begins to lose hope that he will survive his injuries. In the background, Dalí offers a symbol of hope, as a ship sails into view with Isolde aboard to rescue her true love. This love story is expertly rendered in a surreal fashion, as Dalí uses his unique and dynamic imagery to set the moment with suspense, creating anticipation of the events yet to unfold.
